Sammarinese Christian Democratic Party

The Partito Democratico Cristiano Sammarinese ( PDCS ), the Christian Democratic Party of San Marino. It is currently led by Marco Gatti.

The party was founded on April 9, 1948 as a counterpart to the Italian Christian Democracy. Until 1957 prepared Socialists and Communists together the government, while the Christian Democrats, Social Democrats and independents were in opposition. 1957 was the PDCS along with other conservative parties, a coalition that was in turn replaced in 1978 by a socialist-communist coalition. After the elections in 1986, the Christian Democrats and Communists agreed on a joint government and formed a coalition for six years.

In the parliamentary elections of 4 June 2006, the PDCS lost as compared to the previous election in 2001 more than 8 percentage points, but was 32.9 %, in turn, strongest and received 21 of the 60 seats. Nevertheless, they had to against the alliance National Alliance Popolare dei Democratici Sammarinesi per la Repubblica of Social Democrats, Left and the Liberals again in the opposition. In the elections of 2008, the PDCS could even be added easily win, won with the run of her "Pact for San Marino " the absolute majority of mandates and presents again since then the government.
