Samoa national football team

The Samoan national football team is the selection team of the Pacific island nation of Samoa. It is among one of the most unsuccessful teams in the world. Samoa is a member of the world football governing body FIFA since 1984 member of the regional association and OFC since 1986.

The first, not recognized by FIFA games, found in August 1979 still held as Western Samoa in the South Pacific. The date for the first two official games FIFA calls July 1. 1989.

So far, it's the team not been able to qualify for a World Cup. First time in 2011 after qualifying for the OFC Nations Cup. The team retired after three defeats in the group stage.

Samoa at the World Cup

For the first time took Samoa in the qualification for the FIFA World Cup 1998, in a preliminary round for a FIFA world cup tournament. In Polynesian group selection took second place in the standings behind Tonga and in the Cook Islands. The decisive final group match against Tonga lost the team 1:2. This truncation meant the end of the first race of the Samoans at a FIFA tournament.

In the first round of qualifying for the Football World Cup 2002 Samoa had to play in a group of five against Australia, Fiji, Tonga and American Samoa. Having been the first group match against Tonga was lost 0-1, the team clearly won against American Samoa 8-0. Two days later, the team was defeated Fiji with 1:6, the last group match against Australia ended 00:11. So Samoa took fourth place in the standings, which was the early departure result.

In qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2006 had the Samoan group selection in the two compete against Vanuatu, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. After four games Samoa took fourth place in the standings, which also meant the withdrawal.

In Group B qualifying soccer World Cup 2010 in South Africa Samoa narrowly missed a place in the second round. Against the teams from the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga and American Samoa, the Samoan team won twice, but also lost two games and finished at the end of the third place in the standings with six points and 9:8 gates.

In qualifying for the football Ozeanienmeisterschaft 2012, which is regarded as qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2014, to Samoa won against American Samoa, Tonga and the Cook Islands and the first to qualify for the final round of the Ozeanienmeisterschaft. There Samoa meets in June 2012 in Fiji to Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Tahiti. So far, Samoa could still win no play against these teams.
