Samson Chanba

Samson Tschanba ( Abkhaz / Russian Самсон Чанба; * 6 Junijul / June 18 1886greg in Atara, Russian Empire, today Abkhazia. . † 1937) was an Abkhaz- Soviet writer, playwright and politician.

Tschanba wrote both Abkhazian and Russian, he is now one of the pioneers of the Abkhazian drama.

Life

Samson Tschanba came from a peasant family Abkhaz and attended a convent school. After attending a teacher training college, he worked as a teacher. From 1916 he began to write. The Russian October Revolution and the victory of the Bolsheviks, he enthusiastically supported. In 1919 he published his poetry book " Dewa Gor ". 1920 wrote Tschanba with " Machadschiry " the first drama in the Abkhazian language. Numerous other dramas followed, including " Apsny Chanym " (1923 ), " From past few days " ( 1929). In his works he often came to terms with the young Soviet Union and related issues and joined in 1921 and the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. In the same year he became chief editor of the newspaper "Red Abkhazia ". Later Tschanba also wrote short stories.

From 1922 to 1925 and from 1930 to 1932, he was People's Commissar for Education in Abkhazia, and in between he belonged from 1925 to 1930 the Central Executive Committee in Abkhazia. In 1935, he became head of the Abkhaz Writers' Association.

In the course of the Stalinist terror Tschanba was arrested and executed in 1937. Years later, he was posthumously rehabilitated. In the Abkhaz capital Sukhum today the Samson Tschanba Theatre is named after him.
