Special

The Galaxy Note II had at the time of its launch in several unique features compared to similar devices on the market, this included the replaceable battery with a capacity of 3100 mAh and a comparatively large display with a diagonal of 5.55 " and a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels. With this unique feature, the smartphone was in October 2012 as the smartphone with the biggest screen. For some time devices are called in these dimensions also Smartlets or phablets.

Another special feature is the alternative operation over an inductive pen, the Samsung " S Pen " calls. This was in contrast to the pin of the revised Samsung Galaxy Note. Among other things, is also an interaction between the pin and device possible, without compromising the pen touches the screen. With this stated by Samsung "Air View" technology you hold the pen a few centimeters away from the screen what the device detects and depending on the active application performs predefined actions. Thus we obtain, for example, in the video gallery or in the calendar preview the corresponding elements.

The software technical news, which were first presented at a smartphone, heard Best Face. Existing cameras already offered the opportunity to record in a short time several photos in succession to then, some even suggested by the device itself, to be able to select the best of this series. With " Best Face " Samsung goes one step further. First, a series of single shots will also be made . The camera software then switches to an editor mode, in which all the faces of the recording are highlighted. The user can now select, for each face individually the best picture from the photo series. At the end of an image is calculated by a photomontage, which uses the selected face images. Through this technique, it is for example possible to create a photo in which all of the people pictured, the eyes open, although in the respective actual individual recordings someone always had his eyes closed.

Software updates

At launch, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 was shipped with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean. Between December 2012 and January 2013 was followed by an update to Android version 4.1.2 JellyBean. This brought in the so- called premium suite of new features with it, including the so-called multi-window feature, which allows the simultaneous display of two running apps at the same time over one another ( in portrait mode ), or side by side ( in landscape mode). Furthermore, were the camera and gallery-view expanded by additional functions. It was originally planned to release an update to Android 4.2.2 JellyBean including some features of the Samsung Galaxy S4 during the year 2013. Due to various Anspassungsprobleme with the TouchWiz user interface, however, these plans had to be put on hold and the decision was made for a later direct update to Android 4.3 JellyBean in the second half. Already in November 2013, this update was provided sporadically available, but it turned out just like the Samsung Galaxy S III quickly as not mature, which has resulted in many users in serious malfunctions. For those reasons, it was then taken relatively quickly from the network. The revised and functioning version of Android 4.3 is being rolled out in some countries since the end of 2013. The most important innovations are TRIM Support ( are no longer used memory areas freely, thus accelerating writes of the device significantly ), new GPU driver for higher graphics performance, parts of the new TouchWiz user interface of the Galaxy S4 and grade 3, a new Samsung keyboard and Apps2SD, allowing the installation of apps on the memory card.
