Samuel Maykapar

Samuil Moissejewitsch Maikapar (Russian Самуил Моисеевич Майкапар; born December 18, 1867 in Kherson, † May 8, 1938 in Leningrad) was a Russian Romantic composer and pianist.

He taught at the Conservatory in St. Petersburg. Among his most famous pieces Biriulki counts ( a suite of 26 short pieces for young pianists ).

Life

Maykapar spent his childhood in Taganrog. In 1885 he graduated from the local high school and enrolled in a then St. Petersburg Conservatory. At the same time he studied law at the University, from which he graduated in 1891. Maykapar received the Conservatory diploma in 1893 and was until 1898 numerous concerts in Berlin, Leipzig, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Taganrog and other cities.

Between 1898 and 1901 he gave concerts with Leopold Auer in St. Petersburg and in Moscow Ivan Grzhimali. In 1901 he founded his own music school in Tver. From 1903-1910 he lived in Moscow and was on tour through Germany concerts. In 1915 he became professor of music at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1927, he led seven consecutive nights as part of celebrations of Beethoven's 100th Death as a composer 32 Beethoven sonatas in the Small Hall of the Conservatory on. He wrote over 300 songs and several academic papers.
