Samuel Wells Morris

Samuel Wells Morris ( born September 1, 1786 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † May 25, 1847 in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1837 and 1841 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Samuel Morris attended Princeton College. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in Wellsboro in this profession. In his new home he worked 1808-1813 as a district judge, district treasurer and postmaster of Wellsboro. He was also a deputy in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1836 Morris was in the 17th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Laporte on March 4, 1837. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1841 two legislative sessions. In 1840 he gave up another candidacy. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Samuel Morris is no longer politically have appeared. He died on 25 May 1847 in Wellsboro.
