Davis Dimock, Jr.

Davis Dimock ( born September 17, 1801 in Exeter, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, † January 13, 1842 in Montrose, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. In the years 1841 and 1842 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Davis Dimock attended the public schools in Montrose and then the local Susquehanna County Academy. After a subsequent law degree in 1833 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he began to work in Montrose in this profession. He was also active in publishing. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1834 he was appointed county treasurer in Susquehanna County.

In the congressional elections of 1840 Dimock was in the 17th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Samuel Wells Morris on March 4, 1841. He could exercise his mandate in Congress until his death on 13 January 1842. This period was burdened by the tensions between President John Tyler and the Whigs. It was also at that time already been discussed about a possible annexation of the independent Republic of Texas since 1836 by Mexico.
