The San Antonio International Airport ( engl. San Antonio International Airport ) is the City of San Antonio in the U.S. state of Texas largest airport. Previously called the airport and San Antonio Municipal Airport and Alamo Field.

History

In 1941, the city of San Antonio acquired a five -square-mile area north of the city for a planned San Antonio Municipal Airport. After the U.S. entry into the Second World War, the site was taken over by the United States Army Air Forces and opened in 1942 as Alamo Field. After the war, the airport was transferred back to the City Council and released for civilian use. From 1951 to 1953, the reception building (now Terminal 2 ) built that was extended to the Universal Exhibition of 1968.

From 1975 to 1984, the current Terminal 1 was built, increasing capacity from 8 to 27 gates, including 24 passenger boarding bridges.

Operation

In 2008, 8.4 million passengers were handled to destinations in the United States and Mexico at San Antonio. Largest provider was the Southwest Airlines case.
