San Estanislao is the largest city in the Paraguayan department of San Pedro. It is also known under the name Santaní.

San Estanislao was founded on 28 November 1750 by the Jesuit Sebastian de Yegros one of the last Jesuit missions and is named after St. Stanislaus Kostka. Nearby there are some cold springs, in Guarani Ykua (cold water) called, which is reputed magical properties.

1869, during the Triple Alliance War, the city was temporarily capital of Paraguay. In the 90 years of the 19th century it was an important trading center of the Anglo- Argentine La Industrial Paraguaya, which had acquired near large tracts of land for the Mate - cultivation.
