San Juan Bautista is the capital of the department of Misiones in the south of Paraguay. She has more than 18,000 inhabitants.

The city is the seat of the Diocese of San Juan Bautista de las Misiones. Patron saint is John the Baptist.

Location

The city is located about 200 km south of Asunción.

History

The town was founded during the reign of Carlos Antonio López, 1893 it was declared by decree of Juan Gualberto González to the small town. Since 1945, the capital of the department of Misiones.
