San Juan is the capital of the U.S. foreign territory Puerto Rico, an associate with the United States island state. The city is located in the northeast of the island. It has 395 326 inhabitants in the city proper and 2,478,905 as agglomeration ( 2010 census ). San Juan is the largest city in Puerto Rico, the most important seaport and the industrial, economic, cultural and tourist center of the island.

History

San Juan was founded in 1521 by the Spaniards. Since 1983 is the Old San Juan in the list of UNESCO world heritage.

Traffic

The San Juan (Aeropuerto Internacional Luis Muñoz Marín ) International Airport is located about 5 km south-east of the city in Carolina.

San Juan since 2005 it has a metro line from Bayamón after Sagrado Corazón.

Sports

Since 1998, the major international road race World's Best 10K over 10 km will be held in San Juan.

San Juan competed for the 2004 Olympic Games, but did not reach the round of five candidate cities.
