San Salvatore in Lauro

San Salvatore in Lauro (Latin: Sancti Salvatoris in Laurum ) is a Roman Catholic church in Rome. It lies on the banks of the Tiber opposite the Castel Sant'Angelo and was first mentioned in 1177.

A stem of the early Renaissance ( 1449-53 ) burned down in 1591 and was already starting 1594 with a new building, designed by Ottaviano Nonni, called Mascherino replaced. Dome and Campanile 1727-34 were added, the facade 1857-62. The structure of the single-nave interior is influenced by the churches of Andrea Palladio. In the former refectory of the monastery associated ( dissolved ) the remains are from the tomb of Pope Eugene IV

The church was on 24 November 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. elevated to the title diakonia, after she had been from 1587 to 1670 before titular church of Cardinal. Cardinal deacon since 2007, Cardinal Angelo Comastri.
