Angelo Comastri

Cardinal Angelo Comastri ( born September 17, 1943 in Sorano, Grosseto, Italy Province ) is a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

After his school days in the seminars of Pitigliano and Viterbo, and the study of Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Lateran University, where he earned a licentiate in theology, Comastri received on 11 March 1967 Bishop Luigi Boccadoro in the parish church of his native town of Sorano the sacrament of ordination. Subsequently, he worked first at the minor seminary in Pitigliano and was appointed in 1968 as an employee of the Congregation for Bishops.

In 1971 he returned again to the seminar in Pitigliano back after he was appointed to the rain, and in 1979 pastor of the parish of Santo Stefano Protomartire in Porto Santo Stefano. Pope John Paul II conferred him on April 19, 1985 the honorary title of Chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ).

On 25 July 1990, he was named John Paul II appointed Bishop of Massa Marittima - Piombino. He received his episcopal consecration of the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops, Cardinal Bernardin Gantin, on 12 September of the same year. 1994 renounced Comastri to the line of his diocese when he was appointed President of the National Preparatory Committee for the Holy Year 2000. John Paul II conferred him on November 9, 1996 to the rank of Archbishop ad personam and appointed him Prelate of Loreto Territorialprälatur and the Pontifical ambassador for the sanctuary in Loreto.

On 5 February 2005 Comastri President of the Fabric of St. Peter's, coadjutor of the Archpriest of the Papal Basilica of St. Peter and Vicar General of His Holiness for Vatican City. After the election of Benedict XVI. this confirmed him in his offices and appointed him on 31 October 2006 Archpriest of the Vatican Basilica.

24 November 2007 it took Benedict XVI. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Salvatore in Lauro in the College of Cardinals.
