Gianni Danzi

Gianni Danzi (born 25 January 1940 in Viggiù, Varese province, Italy, † October 2, 2007 in Barasso, Italy) was a Roman Catholic Curia bishop and prelate of the later Territorialprälatur Loreto.

Life

Danzi received on 17 December 1966, the sacrament of Holy Orders for the Swiss diocese of Lugano. Pope John Paul II granted him on 17 November 1994 the title of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness.

On 2 May 1996, John Paul II appointed him Titular Bishop of Castello and appointed him as Secretary of the Governorate of Vatican City. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Angelo Sodano on 24 May of the same year; Rosalio José Castillo were co-consecrators Cardinal Lara and Bishop Giuseppe Torti.

John Paul II gave Gianni Danzi on 22 February 2005 to the rank of Archbishop ad personam and appointed him Prelate for Territorialprälatur Loreto and pontifical ambassador for the sanctuary of Loreto, one of the important places of pilgrimage in Italy.

Archbishop Danzi died in October 2007 at the age of 67 years at his family home in Barasso after a long illness from cancer. The Requiem for the deceased in the Marian shrine of Loreto celebrated the president of the Vatican's wealth management, Sergio Cardinal Sebastiani; the sermon, the Patriarch of Venice, Cardinal Angelo Scola.

Danzi has organized the Holy Year 1983, the Papal Council for the Laity, the first major international youth meeting in Rome, from which emerged the World Youth Days; celebrated as Pope Benedict XVI. in September 2007 in Loreto on the national kick-off event for the World Youth Day 2008 a church with 400,000 young people.

Gianni Danzi was known as trailers ( Tifoso ) of Juventus.
