Sándor Simonyi-Semadam

Sándor Simonyi - Semadam ( born March 23, 1864 in Csesznek, † June 4, 1946 in Budapest) was a Hungarian lawyer, politician and banker.

Life

As a member of the Hungarian Christian Democratic Party in 1916, he came into parliament for the first time. During the First World War, he lost his son Sándor Simonyi - Semadam Jr. During the communist regime Béla Kun, he was arrested in 1919 and was only thanks to a chance at liberty.

Admiral Horthy, Regent of Hungary, he was appointed in March 1920 as prime minister and charged him with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During his tenure, the so-called " white counter-revolutionaries " were slowed down, signed the Treaty of Trianon, and there were elections in Tiszántúl ( Transtheiß ) instead. Hungary lost two thirds of its territory and population.

After his tenure as Prime Minister - the shortest in Hungary - he was involved in the financial sector. He was a director in various banks and that of president of the Hungarian Far East Club. His daughter, Erzsébet Simonyi Semadam has Ernő Simonyi, a prominent lawyer, and Károly Simonyi, nuclear physicist and university professor ( father of Charles Simonyi ), raised as an adopted child.
