Sant Joan de Portmany (Spanish San Juan Bautista ) is a municipality in the north of the Spanish Balearic island of Ibiza.

Sant Joan is with 5677 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) is by far the smallest municipality of Ibiza. The village of the same name is the administrative center of the municipality.

Tourism in the coastal villages of the municipality was allowed to rise until then declining population back from the 80s. Since the 90s, the population growth rate is actually quite high, the population increased from 1991 to 2008 by 54%. However, Sant Joan has not yet reached the population from 1940 today.

The population growth is fueled by strong foreign immigration and, to a lesser extent due to the influx of mainland Spaniards. As a result, the proportion of locals has declined in recent decades. Today comes about half of the population ( 49.8 %) native of the Balearic Islands and 28.5 % of Sant Joan.

Development of the Population:

The community has with 31.5% (2008, only main residence) the highest proportion of foreigners in Ibiza. In 1991 lived at 8.6 %, significantly less foreigners in Sant Joan. This is mainly to Western European residents (21.4%), most of them German ( 6.9%).
