Santiuste de Pedraza

Santiuste de Pedraza is a village in the province of Segovia in the autonomous community of Castile -Leon.

Consisting of the hamlets Chávida, La Mata de Santiuste Requijada, Santiuste de Pedraza and Urbano village is located approximately 27 km ( driving distance ) northeast of Segovia at an altitude of about 1100 meters above sea level. inst.

The agriculture, especially dairy and grazing, due to the altitude played the most important role in the economic life of the community.

History

On the history of the place is no information available. However, the region must have been inhabited as early as the Middle Ages.

Attractions

  • The single-nave Romanesque church of Nuestra Señora de las Vegas is in the hamlet Requijada; their south porch corresponds with its asymmetric design to those of Sotosalbos and Duratón. However, the much simpler stone processing and restrained sculptural decoration suggest a slightly earlier date of composition. The Archivolts with the vegetable and abstract geometric reliefs ( including a frieze blocks ) decorated entrance portal still bear traces of paint an older painting, which also mimics geometric motifs. In the spandrels left and right of the Archivolts, the two figures of a preaching group. The interior of the church is covered by a wooden roof.
