SAP NetWeaver Portal

The SAP NetWeaver Portal is the enterprise portal software of SAP AG. Before October 2005, the product was called SAP Enterprise Portal.

The portal is part of SAP NetWeaver and uses as a basis the NetWeaver Application Server ( Java).

Functions are, inter alia:

  • Single Sign -on (SSO )
  • Personalization
  • Role-based presentation
  • View application integration such as Manager Self Service (MSS ) and Employee Self Service (ESS ), with which it is possible, for example, in the browser interface ( WebGUI ) own data in the HR system or process.

In addition, by accessing the additional module to be installed Knowledge Management & Collaboration ( KMC) functions such as document management, team rooms, real-time collaboration (eg, chat, application sharing ) as well as the integration of various groupware systems.

Using TREX search and indexing service is integrated.

SAP sets in terms of the applications within the portal, on iViews. These are similar to the portlets known from other portal solutions.

SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.31 is the current version. The predecessor hot SAP Enterprise Portal 5.0 and 6.0 and SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.0. Version 6.0 was available in two variants, one with the base SAP Web Application Server (SAP Web AS) 6.20 the other with SAP Web AS 6.40. For the EP 5.0 (SAP Web AS 6.10 ) and the EP 6.0 based on SAP Web AS 6.20 31 December 2006 ran out of the mainstream maintenance. This does not affect the Enterprise Portal 6.0 based on SAP Web AS 6.40, which was as part of SAP NetWeaver 2004 until the end of March 2010 in the mainstream maintenance.

Single sign-on mechanisms

SAP provides the Enterprise Portal 6.0 (as of SPS16 ), among others, the following mechanisms for implementing SSO with backend systems available:

  • SAP Logon ticket ( the user receives upon successful registration on the Portal / Web Application Server). This ticket will be provided in the form of a cookie. In this cookie digitally signed the user and session data are included. With implementation of the portal key store and the decryption process in other applications single sign-on can be made between the portal and the application. Since this method is based on cookies, the corresponding restrictions are to be observed (eg, domain restriction ) - but there is the domain -Relax -level, with the help of which options are also extended across domains. SAP backend systems must import the portal certificate using transaction STRUSTSSO2 in the client 000 and the ACL assigned to the target client to enable SSO. Numerous parameters govern the behavior of the application, for example, at -initial or expired password.
