Sapporo Municipal Subway

The Municipal Subway of Sapporo (Japanese札幌 市 営 地下 鉄, Sapporo shiei chikatetsu, dt Municipal Subway Sapporo ) is the metro system of the northern Japanese city of Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido. It was opened as the fourth subway network in Japan on December 16, 1971, consists of three lines. The operating hours are 6:15 to midnight clock with a clock speed of 3-4 minutes during the morning rush hour up to 7 minutes in off-peak periods.

Namboku line (南北 线, Namboku -sen, German South-North line)

Construction of the line was 1969. It was in 1971 and thus completed in time for the 1972 Winter Olympics. The guidance of the vehicles is provided by a rail in the middle of the road, the drive current serves as a return line. The power is supplied via a third rail at 750 V DC. The railway track runs mostly on stilts and is provided in large parts with an aluminum roof to protect the tracks from the heavy snowfalls in winter. Today, it covers a total length of 14.3 km. Tozai Line (东西 线, Tozai -sen, German East-West line)

Today's 20.1 km long route was opened on June 10, 1976 and 1982 and extended in 1999. Also with rubber tires operated, the power is supplied via an overhead line with 1,500 V DC. Your color code is orange.

Toho Line (东 豊 线, Toho - sen)

The first two characters are a combination of the districts Higashi (东) and Toyohira (豊 平), in each of which the end points of this line are. Your color code is blue.

The third and shortest route with today 13.6 km it was put into operation on December 2, 1988. She received in 1994 an extension of 5.5 km. It runs on rubber tires, the power is supplied via an overhead line with 1,500 V DC.

Further expansion

There are plans Toho - line around three stations to extend to the southeast. However, an implementation is currently unlikely, because the ridership of the metro to fall slightly in Sapporo.
