Saqr bin Mohammad Al Qassimi

Sheikh Saqr bin Muhammad al- Qasimi (Arabic صقر بن محمد القاسمي, DMG Saqr al - Qasimi Muḥammad b; well. Sakr Bin Mohammed Al Kassimi born April 9, 1918 in Ra's al -Khaimah, † October 27, 2010 ibid ) was the ruler of the Emirate of Ras al -Khaimah.

He reigned since 1948, making him the longest reigning Emir of the United Arab Emirates. In 1958, he appointed his eldest son, Sheikh Khalid bin Saqr al Qasimi Crown Prince. This took over in 1999, the management of public affairs, Sheikh Saqr when retired for health reasons from the daily business.

In 2003, instead of Sheikh Khalid was the fourth eldest son of Sheikh Saqr, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr al Qasimi ( born 1956 ), was appointed Crown Prince and led since the affairs of state. The former Crown Prince, Sheikh Khalid, was allegedly due to its perceived as too liberal attitude to women's rights in disgrace. However, he remained in the position as deputy of the ruler.

In the course of 2010, the health of Sheikh Saqrs deteriorated rapidly. From the end of April 2010 he was treated in intensive care. During this time, his sons, Khalid and Sa'ud struggled over the succession as ruler of the emirate.

After Sheikh Saqrs death on 27 October 2010 Zayed Hospital in Abu Dhabi, his son Sa'ud ibn Saqr al Qasimi the ruler of Ras al- Khaimah has been appointed.
