Sarah Palfrey Cooke

Sarah Hammond Palfrey Fabyan Cooke Danzig ( born September 18, 1912 in Sharon, Massachusetts, † February 27, 1996 in New York) was an American tennis player.

Career

Her successes included victories in women's singles at the U.S. Championships in 1941 and 1945. Moreover, the double specialist won the competitions in Forest Hills in 1930, 1932, 1934, 1935, 1937-1941. At Wimbledon, she won the doubles competition in 1938 and 1939. Mixed In her conquered in Forest Hills in 1933, 1936 and 1939 as well as at Roland Garros 1939.

Her twin partners were Helen Jacobs, Alice Marble and Helen Wills Moody.

Palfrey was married in first marriage to Elwood Cooke, the finalists in the men's singles at Wimbledon in 1939 ( losing to Bobby Riggs ). In 1963, the induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
