Sardis Lake (Mississippi)

The Sardis Lake is a reservoir, which arises by the damming of the Tallahatchie River, a source river of the Yazoo River in the basin of the Mississippi. It is located about 14 km west of the eponymous city of Sardis. The 40 km ² Sardis Lake is located in the counties of Panola and Lafayette in the U.S. state of Mississippi.

Formation

A short time after the Flood Control Act of 1936 had been ratified by Congress, was started the construction work for the dam. It is part of the Mississippi River Basin Flood Control Project, which was created based on the experience from the flood of 1927.

In 1940 the construction of the dam was completed. He has long been the world's largest dam, which was built as a piled embankment.

Use of the lake
