Sarh

Region

Sarh ( formerly known as Fort Archambault ) is the largest city in southern Chad and the third largest city in the country after N'Djamena and Moundou. The city lies on the River Chari and is capital of the former prefecture of Moyen- Chari. Its population is 110,355 (as of 2009 ).

Sarh was founded by the French for the returnees from the labor camps to the construction of the Congo - Ocean railway. Today, the city is a large transshipment center for goods from across the country and a center of the cotton industry. Furthermore Sarh Sarh houses the National Museum and an airport ( IATA code SRH ).

Sarh Sarh is the seat of the diocese.

Twin Cities

Since November 2001, the French Cherbourg- Octeville is the sister city of Sarh.
