Moyen-Chari Region

Moyen- Chari ( German Central Shari ) is a region of Chad, and corresponds to a large part of the former prefecture of the same name, whose southern portion forms a separate region Mandoul since 2002. Its capital is Sarh. The region has about 1,025,000 inhabitants.

Geography

Moyen- Chari is located in the south of the country, covers an area of 45,180 km ² and borders the Central African Republic. Named the region is named after the river Shari, on the banks of the Manda National Park extends. In the wetlands of the river Bahr Salamat is the Iro Lake. These belong since 2006 to the Ramsar site Plaines d' inondation the Bahr Salamat et Aouk, which is one of the world's largest protected areas of this kind.

Another town next Sarh is Kyabé. Moyen- Chari is divided into three départements Barh KOEH ( capital Sarh ), Grande Sido ( Maro ) and Lac Iro ( Kyabé ).

The main ethnic group in Logone Occidental are the Sara.

Economy

The population in Moyen -Chari region depends mainly on subsistence agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, cotton and sugar cane cultivation.
