Saskia Laroo

Saskia Laroo ( born July 31, 1959 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch jazz trumpeter.

Life and work

Laroo began with eight years of playing trumpet. After a brief study of Mathematics in Amsterdam she worked from 1979 in various Dixieland and mainstream bands that played mainly bass, before returning again to the trumpet. Since 1981 it belonged to the band of Hans Dulfer and Rosa King's upside-down band in which also played Candy Dulfer. In the next years she concentrated on Latin Jazz and Salsa: In 1982, she founded her own Salsa Caliente band between 1986 and 1990 she directed the Caribbean Express in order to act until 1994 with the Caribbean Colours. Since 1994 she performs with her Saskia Laroo on tape and represents the repertoire of their different aspects of her work highlighting albums: On the second album " Body Music ", she presented, for example, Nu Jazz, while their third album " Jazzkia " represented a tribute to Miles Davis. In subsequent years, Laroo working on new style blends, which were defined as Swinging Body Music. In addition, she plays with Jazzkia Straight Ahead Jazz. She presented her music internationally at major jazz festivals, such as the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the International Jazz Week Burghausen, the Hamra Festival (Lebanon ), Java Jazz Festival ( Indonesia), Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Paramaribo Jazz Festival, Sunset Festival ( Japan), Women in Jazz (Hall ) or the Jazz Festival Yatra (India).
