Location of Satpuragebirges

The Satpura range (English: Satpura Range) is a mountain range in central India.

Location

It starts in the west to the east of the city of Bharuch in the east of the state of Gujarat, runs along the boundary between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh along the north of Chhattisgarh. The Satpura range runs parallel to the Vindhyagebirge, from which it is separated by the river Narmada. In the south it is bounded by the Tapti, in the east through the highlands of Chota Nagpur. For Satpura range also includes the Gawilghur Hills, the Mahadeo Hills and Maikala chain in the East.

It limits the Deccan Plateau towards the north.

Hydrology

In the north, the water is fed into the Narmada. The northeastern part of the Satpuragebirges drains into the barrels of the river Son, the South East in the Mahanadi and the South in the Waingunga, which flows into the Godavari. In the southwest of the Satpura range is limited and drained by the Tapti.

Nature

Previously, the Satpura range was heavily forested, but today large areas are cleared. Only a few forest sites have survived and are home to tiger (Panthera tigris tigris ), Gaure (Bos gaurus ), Dhole ( Cuon alpinus ), black bears ( Melursus ursinus ), four- horn antelope ( Tetracerus quadricornis ) and blackbuck ( Antilope cervicapra ).

The East gets through the monsoon rainfall and stronger, like the Eastern Ghats covered with laubbwerfenden moist forests whose Kennart the Salbaum ( Shorea robusta) is. The further west you go, the more extensive is the dry season and the more mixed the teak tree ( Tectona grandis) in, one speaks of deciduous dry forests.
