The Sauhügel is 720 m above sea level. NN high mountains of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the district Saalfeld- Rudolstadt, Thuringia ( Germany ).

The Sauhügel is built of schist from the deep Silurian. Index fossil is Phycodes circinatum, a Ichnofossil. The Phycodenschiefer of Sauhügels has a high iron content.
