Sauvigny-le-Bois

Sauvigny -le- Bois is a commune of 780 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Yonne department in Burgundy.

Geography

Sauvigny -le- Bois is located 3.5 kilometers northeast of Avallon on Route Departmental D86. The hamlet Montjalin, Les Batées, Faix, Pont de Cerce, La Tuileries, Etaules le skin and Bierry belong to the community.

History

In Gallo -Roman period (52 BC to 486 AD) was the community Salvigniacum, under the same name was mentioned in documents in 1217. Therefore, the inhabitants still call Salviniens today. The village was one of the Anséric de Montréal family. Anséric VI. founded in 1210 the priory of Saint -Jean -des- Bonhomme Sauvigny -le -Bois. From the 17th century it passed into the possession of the Les Bertier family. Louis Bénigne François Berthier de Sauvigny (1737-1789) was director ( manager ) of Paris and one of the first victims of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ).

Policy

Sauvigny -le- Bois is part of the municipality of Communauté de communes de l' Association Avallonais. Since 24 September 2005, is twinned with the Italian community Ortona dei Marsi.

Culture and sights

The Montjalin castle dates from the second half of the 18th century. It is registered since 1988 partially historiques in the additional list of Monuments ( Monuments ) ( inscrit MH). It was built by the family Bertier. A pavilion of the palace is older and dates from the 17th century. It housed up to 2010 a museum of famous cars with heads of state.

The priory is a sculpture museum ( musée lapidaire ), will be exhibited in the stone sarcophagi, statues, grave plates, and various objects. An iron, foldable lectern in the abbey dates from the 14th century. It was classified in 1919 as a monument historique.
