Savigny-lès-Beaune

Savigny- lès -Beaune is a commune with 1363 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) and an area of 36 km ². It lies in the northern part of the Côte de Beaune, about 3.5 kilometers from Beaune west of the RN 74 at an altitude 229-577 m above sea level and is part of the Côte-d'Or department. Because of its wines Savigny- lès -Beaune is very well known.

History

From Roman settlement Saviniacum was 936 Savigny the church, which later grew to its present name. Under the regency (La Regence ) of Philippe of Orléans Duchess of Maine was assigned a residence in the castle.

Viticulture in Savigny- lès -Beaune

The municipality with the same name Appellation d' Origine has a total of 350 hectares of land. Alone on 212 hectares of red wines with over 20 Premiers Crus are generated. Of these, the most notable probably Aux Guettes, Aux Vergelesses, La Dominode, Les Lavières, Les Marco Netts, Les Narbantons, Les Peuillets and Les Rouvrettes that are predominantly from Pinot noir, enriched with Pinot Liébault and Pinot Gris, created and under the appellation Savigny -lès -Beaune Premier Cru are sold.

From market policy, the wines can come on the market under the appellation Savigny- Côte de Beaune. White wines are also produced here, they arise from the Chardonnay grape with additions of Pinot blanc.

Attractions

  • The castle Savigny- lès -Beaune with two wings and four round towers dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt after destruction in the 17th century again. It is a monument historique December 18, 1940. Today it contains several museums that are dedicated to the car brand Abarth, the motorcycle and aviation. On the site there are an old mill and a bakery for bread, and a wash-house from the 19th century.
  • The church of Saint -Cassien from the 12th and 16th centuries is also a monument historique registered ( choir and transept since November 10, 1925 and tower of the 12th century since November 28, 1930 ).
  • Small castle of the 18th century with a stucco chapel and numerous murals
  • Gallo-Roman statues in the park of the Little Castle
  • Remains of the old Roman road from Langres to Autun
