Schalk Burger

Schalk Willem Petrus Burger ( born April 13, 1983 in Port Elizabeth ) is a South African rugby union player who plays as a winger for the South African national team in the Currie Cup for Western Province and the Super 14 for the Stormers. It was founded in 2007 with the " Springboks " world champion.

Career

Burger won ahead of his debut for South Africa at the World Championships in 2003 against Georgia with the Under-21 World Championship title. In his first international match he also his first attempt. He came during the tournament to two additional inserts as a substitute. He had started in the same year, to play in the Western Province. Its first use in the Super 14 was followed the next year. Under Jake White, he was first erected in 2004 against Ireland in the starting lineup. In the same year, South Africa succeeded after 1998, the second title in the Tri Nations. Due to outstanding performance, he was elected at that season the IRB Player of the Year, so the best players in the world.

In the following months, Burger has established itself as one of the strongest wingers in the world, to put him a neck injury in 2006 out of action. Prior to surgery, it initially looked as if he could not continue his career. However, these concerns should not be confirmed. In May 2007, he returned in advance of the World Cup. He was nominated for the World Cup, but locked after a yellow card for a high tackle to the first game against Samoa for four games. After South Africa's opposition its lock was reduced to two games, so he still came to his second in this tournament in the first round. He remained until the end of the World Cup in the team and was able to celebrate the second world title in South Africa.

After disappointing running Tri Nations Burger was nominated for the squad for the November internationals 2008. It succeeded the South Africans to win all games against the British selections, among other things were added England the heaviest home defeat of the story. In 2009 he was part of the squad in South Africa during the meeting with the British and Irish Lions. The Springboks won the series against the Lions and the Tri-Nations tournament.

His father of the same name played in the 1980s also for the " Springboks ".
