Schilbe Mystus

Schilbe is occurring in Africa genus of fish belonging to the family of the glass catfish ( Schilbeidae ). Schilbe species occur in tropical West and Central Africa south of the Sahara and the Nile.

Features

They have a streamlined, scaleless body that is laterally strongly flattened and reach body lengths from 9 to 60 cm. The far forward seated dorsal fin is short but high and pointed in most cases. It is supported 5-6 split fin rays. An adipose fin may be present or absent. The anal fin is very long and reaches almost to the deeply forked tail fin. Dorsal and pectoral fins each have a strong, ossified spines. The pectoral fin spine is stronger and weak cut on the inside (P 1 /5). Around the mouth are four pairs of relatively short barbels. The inner lower jaw barbels may be absent or rudimentary. The premaxilla is dentate. The palatal teeth form a narrow, continuous band.
