Schladitzer See

Opencast mine

The Schladitzer lake is the opencast mine of the former lignite mining width field. He is in the northwest of Saxony, about 11 km north of the city of Leipzig and 12 km south of Delitzsch. The lake is surrounded by the municipality Rackwitz and Schkeuditzer districts Hayna and Wolteritz. After the scheduled 2012 completion of the flooding it is to have a water surface of 220 hectares.

Formation

Coal mining in the open pit width field began in 1986. The opening was 1986, the place loess victim. From 1989-1991 the church Schladitz, after which the lake is named, was vacated and demolished.

After 1990, the sales of raw brown coal and lignite products deteriorated so much that different now unprofitable opencast mines were shut down. The former place Schladitz remained unaffected by the loss. Plans, which provided for an extension of the open pit width field to the northern outskirts of Leipzig and the relocation of Highway 14 were not realized.

Use

The Schladitzer lake is used for bathing and water sports center since 2003.

Bathing is since 2003, will be allowed upon the attachment of the embankment at two bathing areas. The Schladitzer Bay is located on the Schladitzer and Wolteritzer beach on the Wolteritzer side of the lake. The use of the lake began years before reaching the planned Endwasserspiegels of 104 m above sea level. NN. In contrast, the Schladitzer Bay is run by the water sports center, " ALL -on -SEA " since June 2003. In summer 2012, the water and wastewater sided development of Schladitzer Bay began.

Traffic

The B 2 and B 184 bind to the Schladitzer lake to the national transport network.

Through a well-developed network of cycle paths, the lake is also easily accessible by bicycle. The 120- km long cycle path from Lutherstadt Wittenberg to Markham " coal - vapor light " leads past the lake.
