Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Wiesenburg

The Ducal House of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- meadow castle was one of the many side lines of the House of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg. Although the family members received the ducal title and rank, but had in Schleswig and Holstein only inheritance and had no sovereign lands.

Historical Overview

The founder of the line was Philipp Ludwig ( 1620-1689 ). He purchased in 1664 the Office Wiesenburg ( Erzgebirgischer circle) with all the villages of Johann Georg II Elector of Saxony, but without sovereign privileges. He invested in the mining industry to Schneeberg and Neustädtel. What initially looked like a failure, but made ​​a lot of profit in the 1670s, so Philipp Ludwig was a wealthy mining entrepreneur. 1675 Philipp Ludwig sold the refurbished by him Wiesenburg with the land for 100,000 dollars to his eldest son, Frederick ( 1651-1724 ). This was an imperial lieutenant general in Hungary. Philipp Ludwig now bought (1686) Oberkotzau in Franconia by Christian Ernst of Brandenburg- Bayreuth, where he died.

His son Friedrich led a very unhappy marriage with Charlotte von Liegnitz - Brieg - Wohlau (1652-1707), who was divorced from him. In 1723 he sold the castle meadow to his only son, Leopold ( 1674-1744 ). Shortly after the death of Duke Frederick he sold it. 1725 acquired Friedrich August I of Saxony the castle for 126,400 dollars. Duke Leopold had returned to Catholicism and married to Marie Elisabeth of Liechtenstein ( 1683-1744 ).
