History

Favorite Castle was designed at the planning stage as a pure hunting lodge and summer villa with beautiful views of the Ludwigsburg Palace.

In 1748, the castle served as a backdrop for a magnificent fireworks at the wedding of Duke Carl Eugen with Elisabeth Friederike Sophie of Brandenburg- Bayreuth.

Neo-classical transformation

King Friedrich I had from 1806 the park into a zoo with deer, chamois and deer transform. Architect Nikolaus Friedrich von Thouret renovated the interior of the little castle in the classical style.

In the 20th century the castle fell into disuse and was in poor structural condition until it was from about 1980 thoroughly restored and furnished with valuable furniture.
