Schönau (river)

The Schwarza, in central and upper reaches of Schönau or hazel and Quellauf Haselbach, is a 30 km long right tributary of the hazel and at the same time their hydrological main arm in the district Schmalkalden- Meiningen in Southern Thuringia. The roll Schwarza is 6.7 km long and is formed by the confluence of Schönau with the coming of the right Lichtenau, which also is one of the main arms of the fan of the hazel.

The Haselbach rises to nearly 800 meters west-southwest Oberhof, on the western slope of the 904 m high mountain shooters in the Thuringian Forest.

The creek flows from then Registrar reason of the up high by 900 m main ridge of the Thuringian Forest at Rennsteig in the north of the more resolved in individual mountain elevations of the southern mountain chain with Burned Stone ( 897 m), Rupp mountain ( 866 m) and Big Hermannsberg ( 867 m) separated. All three mountains mentioned are flanked directly in the course of the stream to west southwest, northwest and southwest finally directly.

Headwaters

From reaching the places Oberschönau and Unterschönau the name Schönau is familiar, but the river card is still commonly referred to as hazel. The river changes its direction from west southwest to south and leaves the (actual ) Thuringian Forest.

Middle reaches

In Steinbach- Hallenberg, the river enters the red sandstone foothills of the Thuringian Forest. The district Herges and finally the core community Viernau flows through them, which from the left ( = west) of Häselbach (6.4 km, about Landwehr Bermbach or even 7.0 km, 13.1 km ² catchment ) flows.

Underflow

In Schwarza the Schönau (previously 22.5 km long at 76.3 km ² catchment area ) almost doubled its volume of water. First of all flows in the north of the place of the right Christeser water (8.5 km, 23.8 km ²), then, 800m south near the center, the Lichtenau ( 20.7 km, 49.4 km ²).

The said now Schwarza river flows another 6.7 km to the south, to unite in Kloster tube with the coming of East Hazel.
