Geography

Geographical Location

Schoental, the largest with 8165 ha area municipality in the district of Hohenlohe located in 200-334 meters altitude in Jagsttal and in the side valleys of Sindelbachs (left Jagst inflow ) and the Erlenbach and the Kessach (right tributaries ).

Neighboring communities

At the Schöntals area bordered to the north of the Neckar- Odenwald-Kreis with Ravenstein and Adelsheim and west of the district of Heilbronn with Jagsthausen and rams. The neighboring communities to the east are Krautheim and Ingelfingen, in the south Weissbach and Forchtenberg.

Community structure

The community Schoental on March 1, 1972 merger of the previously independent municipalities eight Aschhausen, Berlichingen, Bieringen, Marlach, Oberkessach, Schoental ( now called the Monastery Schoental ) Sindeldorf and Westernhausen the then district Künzelsau formed. On January 1, 1973, the municipality of Mayrhofen Winzenheim the former county Book was incorporated as the ninth community.

For the former municipality Aschhausen include the village Aschhausen and Outbound village Otto Stockhausen. For the former municipality Bieringen include the village Bieringen and the hamlet Weltersberg and Outbound castle Urhausen. For the former municipality Berlichingen include the village Berlichingen, the homestead Neuhof and the house brick hut and the disposed villages Erlahe and Hiupenhusen. For the former municipality Marlach include the village Marlach, the hamlets of Altdorf and Sershof and the homestead Lower Sershof. For the former municipality Oberkessach include the village and the hamlets Oberkessach hop garden and Weigental. For the former municipality Schoental include the Monastery Schoental, the hamlet Rossach and Spitzenhof, the place Eichelshof, the homestead Halsberg and the house Kreuzberg as well as dialed villages Brechelberg, Eschach, Eschenau, Hoefelden, High rigid and stone. For the former municipality Sindeldorf part of the village Sindeldorf. For the former municipality Westernhausen include the village Westernhausen and dialed Ruthardtsdorf villages and stone. To Winzenheim Mayrhofen Mayrhofen Winzenheim the village and the homestead Heßlingshof and Outbound village Stedenbach (?).

History

The Cistercian monastery Schoental was founded in 1157. Between 1708 and 1736 the church was built, in 1802, the monastery was secularized. Also in 1802 came today all districts except Winzenheim Mayrhofen to Württemberg and belonged from 1938 to the district Künzelsau. The former Electoral Mainz Winzenheim Mayrhofen went to Baden in 1806 and was there from 1939 to the district book. On March 1, 1972, the church today Schoental was established and added to the Hohenlohe district.

In 1900, the narrow gauge railway Jagsttal was taken by railway stations in Berlichingen, Schoental and Bieringen in operation, 1988, she was decommissioned.

Religions

The community Schoental is predominantly Catholic. In Berlichingen there was for centuries a large Jewish rural community, a Jewish cemetery from this period still exists today. Also in Bieringen 1900 Jews had lived since the 17th century until the dissolution of the local community around the year.

The mayor is elected by direct vote for a term of eight years. Since 2004, Patrizia felt is Mayor of Schoental. She was re-elected on 6 May 2012 with a voter turnout of 46.3 % with 80.4 % of votes cast for another eight years.

Coat of arms and flag

The blazon of the coat of arms Schöntaler is: In green crossed diagonally from the bottom edge up coming a golden crosier and a right silver iron fist, the intersection covered with a lowered, double row geschachten of red and silver bars ( Cistercian bars). The municipal flag is yellow-green.

The former municipality Schoental resulted in their punches, the monastery church. 1972, she was awarded with the Cistercian beams and the golden crosier on a green background a work based on the Klosterwappen image characteristics. The new community Schoental took both characters in their coat of arms, the crosier represents next to the monastery since the districts that had belonged to Electoral Mainz. Added to this was the Iron Hand of Gotz von Berlichingen, who is buried in the monastery. Coat of arms and flag were presented to the community on September 19, 1978 by the District Office of Hohenlohe.

Community partnership

Between the district Sindeldorf and the French community Marigny -Saint- Marcel ( Haute- Savoie) is an unofficial partnership since 1959. This was initiated by Sindeldorfer Willy Humm, the prisoner of war worked on a farm in Marigny 1946. After Willy Humm was named in Marigny on the 50th anniversary of the partnership a road. Another road is named " Avenue de Sindeldorf ".

Previously the wine in Jagsttal was very pronounced. Today is only operated in Bieringen to a lesser extent viticulture.

Culture and sights

  • The monastery Schoental, a former Cistercian abbey was founded in 1157 and secularised in 1802. It is considered the most beautiful spiritual residence of the Baroque period in the north of Baden -Württemberg. Today, an educational center of the Diocese of Rottenburg -Stuttgart, a forest school hostel and the town hall of the Schoental are housed in the buildings among others.
  • Aschhausen: The Aschhausen castle dates back to the Middle Ages. It was destroyed in 1523 and received its present form mainly by buildings from the 18th century.
  • Berlichingen: Berlichingen castle is the ancestral castle of the lords of Berlichingen (private property). The Jewish cemetery Berlichingen is the largest in the district of Hohenlohe.
  • Bieringen: The Roman Catholic Church of St. Kilian was built in 1722.
  • Westernhausen: In the ruins of stone, there are ruins of a stone castle from the 14th century.
  • The Neusaßer Linde is a natural monument in the Sanctuary Neusaß, which belongs to the monastery Schoental. The tree has an age of about 300 to 500 years and a circumference of 8.62 meters.
