Schoonselhof cemetery

The Schoonselhof is a cemetery in Antwerp, Belgium, located in the districts of Hoboken and Wilrijk. Because of his skillful grave monuments and because of the well-known personalities who have found their final resting place here, the Schoonselhof is also called the " Père Lachaise of Antwerp ."

History

In 1911 the city acquired the estate of Antwerp Schoonselhof on the initiative of the then alderman for Culture, Frans van Kuyck order to set up a graveyard. The official opening took place on 1 September 1921. After the old Kielkerkhof had been closed in 1936, in 1938 many grave times were brought from there to the Schoonselhof.
