Schweich Lectures on Biblical Archaeology
The Schweich Lectures on Biblical Archaeology ( German Schweich Lectures on Biblical Archaeology ) are a series of lectures on topics related to the Biblical Archaeology, which is regularly organized by the British Academy in London.
1907 Constance Schweich donated in memory of her father Leopold Schweich of the British Academy £ 100,000 " devoted to the furtherance of research in the archeology, art, history, languages and literature of Ancient Civilisation, with reference to Biblical Study " ( " for the promotion of research in archeology, art, history, languages and literature of ancient civilizations with reference to the Biblical studies " ). From this foundation will, inter alia, sponsored this lecture series. This was the first major foundation of the British Academy, which had only been founded in 1901 and initially received no public subsidies. The first Schweich Lecture was held in 1908. The lectures will be published by the Oxford University Press.
