The rocker barrage near Stade is located at the mouth of the swingarm in the same. It is part of a flood protection concept of the influenced by the tidal river Elbe from the barrage Geesthacht to the mouth of the river into the North Sea, which was developed as a result of the severe storm surge in February 1962.

The threshold depth is 4.5 m below sea level, the upper edge of the miter gates is 7.6 m above sea level. Is closed, the locking mechanism from a water level of 2.4 m above sea level. There is a double bascule bridge, which is not in operation over the barrage.
