SciDAVis

Scidavis is a free software for visualization and analysis of measurements. It is a fork of QtiPlot is available under the GPL.

Function

Scidavis is similar to programs such as Origin, but does not offer the same functionality. Scidavis allows various import options to:

  • Directly inputting the measured values
  • Opening and importing graphics
  • ASCII import with different formats into a new table.

After processing the data using mathematical functions, the result can be represented using 2D/3D different species. Other functions of the program can be used here, such as fitting, FFT, integration / differentiation. Finally, a graph can be further improved with graphics tools. As export options are very many formats available, including PDF, EPS, JPEG, PNG. Scidavis has a scripting language support for MuParser and Python, can be added with your own functions.

History

Scidavis is originally a fork of QtiPlot in version 0.9. The versions 0.1.0 ( August 5, 2007) to 0.1.4 did not differ much from QtiPlot. In version 0.2.0 extensive additions have been made, especially with tables and matrices concerns. With the Versions 0.2.1 to 0.2.3 followed by several bug fixes and language packs.

Objectives

Scidavis has set itself the goal of both simple as well as more demanding tasks to be intuitive to use. Part of the operating concept is an integrated window manager. To give Against this background, but also with the intention of the users a free alternative to the more restrictive and increasingly for-profit QtiPlot at hand, it removes increasingly from QtiPlot, which in turn is based on Origin.

The developers of scidavis work together with the developers of LabPlot to create two different user interfaces with a common backend. LabPlot should be well integrated into KDE, whereas scidavis has only Qt dependencies and should be as platform independent.

Dissemination

Scidavis had so far ( the 11 May 2010) over 70,000 downloads from the project homepage. However, a large part of the installations will not have been recorded since scidavis is available in the package repositories of major Linux distributions.
