Amethyst squill ( Chouardia litardierei )

The amethyst - blue star or meadows squill ( Chouardia litardierei ( Breistr. ) Speta Syn: .. Scilla litardierei ( Breistr. ) Speta, Scilla pratensis Waldst et Kit non Bergeret, S. amethystina Vis, S. italica host, p. nutans alse ) Speta ) is a species of the genus Chouardia closely with the blue stars (Scilla ) are related. The genus Chouardia consists of only two species, Chouardia litardierei and Chouardia lakusicii. It is a widespread species in Dalmatia and the Dinaric Alps.

Features

The amethyst - blue star is a perennial, herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 10 to 45 centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. Leaves are present in usually from March to May and sometimes as early as February or September. The leaves are 15 to 40 centimeters long and 0.3 to 1.5 centimeters wide, rinnig, bald and have a Kaputzenspitze. Every 15 to 70 flowers together form a dense, spherical, racemose inflorescence. The flower stems and inflorescence axis are blue violet. The lower bracts are less than one millimeter long. The hermaphrodite flowers are triple. The bloom are 4-5 mm long and 1.3 to 1.8 mm wide, colored blue-violet and star-shaped spread. The anthers are black violet.

The flowering time is usually in May, in part, it starts as early as April or lasts until June.

The chromosome number is 2n = 26

Occurrence

The distribution area of the Amethyst Blue Star ranges from Slovenia and Croatia to the west of Serbia, Montenegro and northern Albania. Here is the kind found in damp moor grass meadows and rocky mountain pastures at altitudes of 2000 meters.

The locus classicus is the Lika in Korenica in Croatia.

Use

This type is rarely used as an ornamental plant for sunny borders with shrubs and small for possible wood edges.

Etymology

The scientific species name ( " epithet " ) litardierii is dedicated to the French botanist and explorer of the Corsican flora René de Litardière Revealed ( 1888-1957 ).
