Scott Joplin House State Historic Site

The Scott Joplin House State Historic Site in St. Louis is the former residence and memorial of the late 1917 's Ragtime musician Scott Joplin. The state park is 1.5 hectares.

When Scott Joplin with his wife Belle moved into the brick building on the success of Maple Leaf Rag in 1900, the neighborhood was predominantly populated by African- Americans and German immigrants. Nearby there was also a honky tonk bar. In the early years, he composed at the Morgan Street some of his most famous songs: The Entertainer, Elite Syncopations, March Majestic ragtime and dance. His first work A Guest of Honor is lost. 1907 Joplin moved to New York.

In 1976 the building was entered in the National Register of Historic Places and in 1984 transferred the previous owner, the property of the Department of Natural Resources ' Division of State Parks.
