Scratch My Back (scratch my back ) is a 2010 released album of the singer Peter Gabriel.

Data

In Australia and Germany, it appeared on February 12 in the UK on February 15 and in the U.S. on March 2, 2010. It was taken in 2009 by the Associated Independent Recording, and the Real World Studios and produced by Gabriel along with Bob Ezrin. The orchestral arrangements took over the New Zealand composer John Metcalfe.

Background

The album is a cover album with some more, some less well-known songs in arrangements for classical orchestra. Here, Peter Gabriel and arranger held strictly to the self-imposed motto " no drums, no guitars" - so renounced the use of drums and guitars.

The idea behind Scratch My Back was that the original performer of the selected pieces of Peter Gabriel in return should install songs of Gabriel in his own interpretation. This material should be published on a separate album, was scheduled for the title And I'll Scratch Yours. The overall title of the Scratch My Back project - I'll Scratch Yours (English: " you scratch my back, I scratch your " or " one hand washes the other" ) emphasizes the reciprocity of admissions.

However, the second album initially failed to appear, as was indeed signaled by all musicians willingness to the project, but actually received only 6 cover versions of Gabriel songs (except for Neil Young, Radiohead and David Bowie, who should be but then represented by Brian Eno ) were. They were then released on iTunes for download. The release of the second album was finally on 24 September 2013.

Effect

Originally operated as a side project, the album was contrary to expectations, the record company EMI and also by Gabriel himself great success. The chart position in Germany was better than his last regular studio album. The originally scheduled only four concerts live presentation has been extended several times and was finally in the years 2010 to 2012 on 50 dates in Europe, North and South America. For the concerts compositions by Gabriel had been taken in an orchestral arrangement. These were eventually published in 2011 as a separate album, titled New Blood. In addition, a DVD was released with a concert recording, and measures based on this live double album.
