Screen Souvenirs

Screen souvenirs was an American short film series that was produced 1931-1935 by Paramount Publix.

Background

Screen Souvenirs was one of the first film series, marketed the early silent film and newsreel footage in the sound film era in the form of compilation films. Unlike other ranks Screen souvenirs here concentrated on recordings before 1914.

The individual consequences of the screen souvenirs were always a Reel, or about 15 minutes. In general, the individual scenes were commented or accompanied by a speaker. Unlike other film series of the same type as Goofy Movies comment was not humorous or mocking used, or covered individual scenes with sound effects, but the cutouts were presented largely authentic. The aim was " to present the unique qualities of the old movies and in this way to relive the past and awaken nostalgia for a vanished time and vanished places ". The screen souvenirs were doing advertised as " a few minutes of authentic entertainment for moviegoers of today". Produced the series by the group of Fred Waller, who had come in 1927 as head of the short film production and editor of U.S. News newsreel Paramount Paramount.

Follow the screen souvenirs are now coveted collectors' items since they include, among other things, short excerpts of films that otherwise regarded as lost or were never released.

Award

The first film in the series Screen Souvenirs, which was published in August 1931, 1932 for an Oscar in the category " Best Short Film - Novelty " was nominated, but could not prevail against Wrestling Swordfish itself.
