Seaboard System Railroad

The Seaboard System Railroad ( SBD) was an American railway company. Office of the Company was Jacksonville ( Florida). It was created as a society in transition on the way to the creation of CSX Transportation. Parent company of the Seaboard System was founded on November 1, 1980 CSX Corporation.

The approximately 22,500 -kilometer route network included the states of Florida ( Miami, Tampa, Tallahassee ), Georgia (Atlanta, Macon, Savannah ), Alabama (Birmingham, Mobile ), Tennessee (Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville ), Kentucky ( Louisville ) Illinois ( Chicago), Indiana (Indianapolis ), South Carolina ( Charleston, Georgetown), North Carolina ( Charlotte, Wilmington ) and Virginia (Richmond, Norfolk ), and the cities of Cincinnati, St. Louis and New Orleans.

In the Seaboard System Railroad under the name "Family Lines" co-branded and entrepreneurially and financially intertwined railway companies were combined. Founded on December 29, 1982, when the Louisville and Nashville Railroad with the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad merged. On 1. January 1983 was the Clinchfield Railroad integrated as Clinchfield Division in the company. During the same year also saw the acquisition of other companies in Georgia Railroad, Atlanta and West Point Railroad and Western Railway of Alabama., the Seaboard system also had a 40 percent share the Richmond - Washington Company, which in turn held 63.6 percent of the voting rights of the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad. On 1 July 1986, the Seaboard system was renamed CSX Transportation.
