Sebastiano Venier

Sebastiano Venier (* 1496, † March 3, 1578 ) was from 1577 to 1578 86th Doge of Venice. His short reign was after the victory of the Holy League against the Turks a time of peace.

Life

Venier, the younger of two sons of Moise Venier and Dona Elena, showed early in his youth interest in the law and was, without ever having obtained a degree, as distinguished jurist.

Tomb

Sebastiano Venier was first provisionally buried in the burial church of the Venier, Santa Maria degli Angeli in Murano, in anticipation of the establishment of a reasonable Dogengrabmals by the family. However, neither the family nor the Republic strove particularly to build the victor of Lepanto an appropriate monument.
