Seira ( German Seyer ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Lihula ( Lihula vald ) in Lääne.

Population and location

The village has 59 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It is located 37 kilometers southeast of the county town of Haapsalu.

History

Seira was first mentioned in records in 1430 under the name Ser. In medieval times the village was owned Szeura the nunnery of Lihula. As of 1688, the Court, under the name Seir is preserved.

Good Vanamõisa

In the 17th century the manor was founded Vanamõisa ( German Wannamois ) on the former estate of the Lander Cistercian monastery of Lihula on the territory of today's village. It belonged to the parish of Kirbla ( Kirbla kihelkond ).

During the Swedish period Estonia the good of the Oxenstierna family belonged. After the Great Northern War in the early 18th century, the owners changed frequently. It was then owned by the aristocratic Baltic German family Hoyningen -Huene. Beginning of the 18th century was Gustav Graf Rehbinder the owner. 1830 acquired by marriage the family Clodt of Jürgensburg the estate.

In 1851 the estate was by kinship relations become the property of Budberg family. She has held the property until the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform of 1919. At the turn of the 20th century was Otto Bernhard of Budberg ( 1850-1907 ) owner of the estate. He was from 1893 for almost ten years knighthood captain of the Estonian Knighthood.

Characteristic of the good is the 64 meter long stone bridge over the river Võhma ( Võhma Jõgi ). It was built in the mid 19th century.

The elongated, single storey manor house of the estate in the style of classicism and most outbuildings are today only a ruin. Worth seeing is the manager's house in altbaltischen style. One and a half kilometers southwest of the former manor house is the family cemetery of the Budbergs.
