Selchow and Righter

Selchow & Righter was an American game manufacturer. In addition to Parker Brothers and Milton Bradley, it was the largest game manufacturer in the United States until all three are merged 1984-1991 to Hasbro. Until its sale in 1986, it was a family business, which was conducted by the two families Selchow and Righter.

The company was founded in 1867 by Elisha G. Selchow as EC Selchow & Co was founded. 1880 John Righter partner of Selchow and the company was renamed to Selchow & Righter.

The game Parcheesi was a huge success. As of 1953, the successful game Scrabble was sold and in 1983 the game Trivial Pursuit.

Sale

Selchow & Righter was sold to Coleco in 1986 for $ 75 million. Coleco was 1987/88 bankrupt. Parker Brothers offered the most for the rights to Trivial Pursuit. 1989 Hasbro bought what was left of Coleco even disappeared for $ 85 million plus 1 million Hasbro shares and Selchow & Righter 's name. Since the acquisition of Parker Brothers 1991, Trivial Pursuit is based at Hasbro.
