Selec

Selec (Hungarian Szelec ) is a municipality in the north- west of Slovakia with 995 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Trenčín, kraj a circle of the parent Trenčín.

Geography

The municipality is located ( German: Inowetz ) in the middle of the Považský Inovec in a small valley between the foothills and the main ridge, at the brook Selecký creek - which flows north from the south - a left tributary of the Waag. To the east of the town rises the highest mountain of Považský Inovec, the Inovec (1042 m nm), the town center is located at the altitude of 319 m nm Selec is 16 kilometers away from Trenčín.

The land is mostly wooded. Among the protected natural areas of Selecký include creek and the Selecké kamenné more (literally " stone sea of Selec ").

History

Selec was first mentioned in 1439 as a villa Selcz writing and is part of the demesne of the Lord in Trenčín. At the time of mention, however, it was already a developed place, therefore, can be the foundation traced back several centuries. The main sources of income of the population over time agriculture, weaving, in the 18th and 19th century paper mill and in the 20th century, manufacture of wooden ware. However, most residents travel to work in the city of Trenčín.
