The Semmelberg is 158 meters, the highest elevation in the county or Mark- Land, Brandenburg. It is situated on the national highway 158 on the territory of the municipality height of land between Wollenberg and space field, a district of Falkenberg.

Troposphere radio center 301

Near the site of the Ministry of National Defense ( MfNV ) in Strausberg was in the middle of the 1980s on the highest geographical survey of Bad Freiwalde, the Semmelberg, one of three tropospheric radio centers of strategic troposphere message system " BARS " of the Warsaw Pact on the territory of the GDR built. To install the troposphere radio center in Semmelberg the geographical survey was initially removed, a concrete bunker shell with the surface measure of approx. 30 m × 30 m, plus the ancillary facilities built and then filled up the mountain above the bunker envelope again. In this way, the Bunker Wollenberg was born. It was designed for the installation of four tropospheric radio sets. Taking into account the operational and strategic requirements and the financial and economic possibilities of the GDR only three tropospheric radio sets were installed. This tropospheric radio communications were recorded in three different directions: to the bunker long village in the north of the GDR, the bunker Röhrsdorf in the south of the GDR and a tropospheric radio station in the People's Republic of Poland. The troposphere radio center was built as a support message center 301 in covered prepared messaging system of the NVA. In this role, she secured the provision of troposphere news channels for the main implementing agency of the Ministry of National Defense in Harnekop and the main news headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense.
